What Is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder?
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition characterized by persistent obsessive thoughts and compulsive actions. This disorder can make individuals feel overwhelmed and unable to resist these intrusive thoughts or urges. At Serenity Mental Health Centers, our aim is to support our patients in overcoming their OCD symptoms, enabling a smoother day-to-day life. If you're experiencing the challenges of OCD, assistance is nearby in Ponte Vedra, FL.
How Is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Treated?
Multiple treatment approaches are available for managing OCD, with prescription medication being the most prevalent. Additionally, we provide alternatives like transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and ketamine therapy.
TMS, a noninvasive procedure, employs magnetic pulses to target the brain area linked with OCD, while ketamine therapy, administered through IV, is recognized for alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Regardless of the chosen method, our team is committed to supporting every patient in discovering a treatment plan that suits their needs.
What increases the chances of developing OCD?
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition that may arise from a blend of biological, psychological, and environmental influences. While its exact cause remains unknown, researchers have identified several risk factors that may elevate the likelihood of developing OCD, such as:
- Genetic predisposition
- Neurological differences
- Significant life stressors
- Personality characteristics
- Infections during childhood
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Reviews
Tolulope's experience with TMS therapy has been excellent. She is patient and really kind, even if the initial consultation took some time to schedule.
For years, I've grappled with ADHD and anxiety. Discovering Tolulope was a game-changer. Her tailored approach to medication management is thorough, and her genuine concern for her patients' well-being shines through her patience and care.
Good results from Ketamine therapy but the follow-up process needs work.
TMS treatment helped me become a much happier person and helped me see a more positive outlook on my life, even in my difficult times. The staff has been supportive, uplifting, consistent, attentive and kind. (Shout out to Jadriana, Kevin, Nate, Victoria, May and others!) My mental health has been a struggle for nearly 15 years and this treatment helped me feel more in control of my mental health while also helping me manage the uncontrollable circumstances. I learned to focus on gratitude and how to work through tough circumstances in healthier ways. I’m certain I would not have been able to do before treatment. I will say that patience and commitment is necessary in order to feel the full effects. I was hesitant to begin treatment because of how time consuming it is and because the effects don’t kick in right away. To me this treatment is similar to getting your body in shape. You have to work and dedicate the time. It’s not going to magically fix you either. The process is changing your physical brain operations but in my opinion it also requires your willingness to try different (healthier) coping skills and change the way you approach situations and challenges. I am very grateful I took a chance on this treatment. I also understand that this treatment is not for everyone. For my symptoms, (major depression, nearly constant anxiety, social withdrawal, apathy, etc.) this treatment was definitely helpful in my recovery. I know I will always have to keep my mental health in check throughout my life because of my previous trauma and my profession. This was an important piece to my recovery. Thank you to all of the staff——especially Jadriana and Kevin, whose dedication and kindness uplifted me every session. ALSO THANK YOU FOR THE SNACKS ON GRADUATION DAY
Tolulope's compassionate and professional approach in supporting anxiety and PTSD is truly remarkable. A shining example in the field of psychiatry!!!!

How Is OCD Diagnosed?
OCD is diagnosed through a thorough evaluation conducted by one of our board-certified psychiatrists. This diagnosis typically includes an extensive clinical interview during which we review the individual's symptoms, their medical and psychological history, and their overall mental health. During the assessment, we search for signs of obsessions — persistent and unwanted thoughts — and compulsions — repeated behaviors or mental rituals designed to reduce anxiety. The process may also involve the use of questionnaires or rating scales to assess the intensity of the symptoms. This comprehensive method ensures a precise diagnosis and facilitates the creation of a customized treatment plan that addresses the specific needs of the individual.
